The biggest preventable causes of waste in the lighting industry are inferior design and a lack of durability, two facts that manufacturers are less-than-enthusiastic to tell you about. Too many lighting products break, wear out, outdate too quickly or just get 'found out' as being not up to the job, in short they are crap. This is not to mention the social and environmental consequences that come with being cheaply made in China, India and elsewhere beyond the reach of the employment standards that our forebears fought hard to create.
Historic Lighting's products are designed and built to offer many years of reliable service. Never truly fashionable, never truly unfashionable, some of our designs have already seen 50+ years of service and have the potential to last for ever.
Once upon a time all the products we supplied were original objects from the past (old factories). Vintage industrial lighting grew in popularity and prices went up. Vintage industrial lighting was becoming an exclusive, affluent collector scene and we began to feel like antique dealers.
These days most of our turnover comes from manufacturing. We make everything here in the UK, using all the same traditional techniques - exactly as it used to be made. Most of the rest of what we supply is made by our manufacturing partners here in the UK and in mainland Europe.
Our products are manufactured in proper working conditions, in the UK/EU. You are welcome to come and look around our manufacturing locations, we can guarantee you will like what you see. We package using recycled paper, shredded newsprint and card. We don't use any polythene wrappings, packaging or tapes - so everything is easy and efficient to recycle.
